If you’ve got the flu, you can get antiviral medication called Tamiflu. Come to Murrays Chemist in Harrow for flu treatment this winter.
What is flu?
Influenza (flu) is a virus similar to the common cold but much more severe. If you have the flu, it is much harder to function or to even get out of bed.
The symptoms of flu include:
Fever of 37.8C or above AND
Cough, blocked or runny nose, sneezing or sore throat AND
Muscle aches, chills or sweats, tiredness or headaches
We often use the term flu to describe a bad cold. But until you’ve had the flu, you don’t appreciate how debilitating it can be.
Influenza is a virus and antibiotics, that are used to treat bacterial infections, will have no effect. Only anti-viral medication can treat viruses.
What is Tamiflu?
Tamiflu is an antiviral medicine for treating the symptoms of flu. Tamiflu won’t cure your flu, but it will relieve your symptoms and may speed your recovery.
For it to be effective, Tamiflu flu treatment needs to start within two days of the first symptoms.
However, Tamiflu can only be given once flu is confirmed as being in circulation by the National Surveillance Scheme.
How do I get flu treatment in Harrow?
To access Tamiflu, you’ll need to see one of our pharmacists. The pharmacist will confirm your symptoms and may prescribe Tamiflu providing it has been confirmed as currently circulating. You’ll receive five-days worth of treatment (10 capsules).
Tamiflu isn’t suitable if you:
Are Pregnant or breastfeeding
Have diabetes
Have liver, kidney, heart or lung problems
Are severely obese
Have a nervous or immune system condition
Have gut problems such as bleeding or severe vomiting or
You have previously had an allergic reaction to this medication
If you have any of the above, please contact your GP instead.
