Period Delay Tablets Utovlan Norethisterone Harrow Wembley Murrays Chemist

There are many reasons why you may choose to delay your period. Maybe you have a wedding or holiday planned and you want to delay your period until after the event. Likewise, you may wish to avoid the stress or discomfort of a period during a house move, job change or another stressful event such as exams.

If you have a big event planned, consider taking period delay tablets, also known as Utovlan or Norethisterone, and you could delay your period by up to 17 days.

Murray’s Chemist is pleased to offer the period delay tablet for our customers in the Harrow and Wembley area.

How does the period delay tablet work?

Norethisterone is the active ingredient in both Utovlan and Norethisterone. It works by mimicking the natural female hormone, Progesterone. Falling levels of progesterone trigger the menstrual bleed at the end of your normal cycle. So taking Utovlan/Norethisterone keeps your progesterone levels high and this stops you having your period.

By taking Utovlan, you can delay your period by up to 17 days.

How do I take Utovlan?

You should begin taking Utovlan tablets three days before you expect your normal period. You will need to take one tablet three times per day for up to 20 days. Your period will start around two to three days after you finish taking Norethisterone.

When you consider delaying your period, it’s important to plan ahead. If you start taking the tablets too late, your period may start as normal and won’t be delayed.

During your appointment at Harmony Health in Murrays Chemist, Harrow, we’ll be able to advise you on how to take the period delay pill and what you can expect.

What are the side effects of Norethisterone?

When taking the period delay pill, Norethisterone, side effects are rare. However, some people may experience skin rashes, nausea and dizziness.

You cannot take the period delay tablet if you are using the combined contraceptive pill.

The period delay tablet is not a form of contraception so you can still get pregnant whilst taking it.

Alternatives

Utovlan is the only treatment we offer that will delay your period.

If you are taking the combined contraceptive pill, you can take packets of tablets back to back in order to delay your period. Please note that you should not take Utovlan if you are also taking the combined pill.
